Unique exhibits and rarities

The museum exhibits the vehicles of the little man from the 50s to 70s and older. The collection includes a wide range of models – from a small BMW Isetta to the largest convertible in the world. Perhaps you will also find one or two vehicles that were driven by your parents, grandparents or someone you know. The museum was opened in 1996 and has been growing steadily ever since. Around 200 exhibits are currently on display in an exhibition area of approx. 1,400m².

A look inside the museum

Discover various types of cars, motorcycles, tractors and rarities. The largest convertible in the world – the Steyr-Zeiserl with 23 seats, as well as the steam locomotive BJ 1893 with the saloon car from 1915. Interesting videos are shown “non-stop”. And an apartment from the 60s – with our grandma’s original furnishings.

Another section is dedicated specifically to the history of Volkswagen, dedicated to the designer, genius and car pioneer Ferdinand Porsche. The Porsche family’s residence is only 5 km away from the museum in Zell am See/Schüttdorf.

The history of the museum

Helmuth Vötter grew up in modest circumstances, lived with his mother in a one-room apartment and lost his father in the war. Even as a child, he had to work for a farmer, receiving only food as wages. Helmuth showed an early interest in engines and built functional vehicles from scrap parts in his spare time as a teenager. His special dream was a BMW Isetta.

He began collecting historic vehicles around 30 years ago, starting with a restored BMW Isetta. This laid the foundation for his current vehicle museum, which he built up by acquiring and lovingly restoring further vehicles. Despite initial skepticism from others, he consistently pursued his goal of preserving vehicle history for future generations.
